Good Neighbours

The Waterlooville and Purbrook Good Neighbours Group

had another successful year in 2009, having done nearly 700 small tasks, of which half were shopping, and the majority of the remainder involved taking to medical appointments people who have difficulty with public transport or hospital transport.  The Group also took people to visit relatives in hospital, collected prescriptions and pensions, and took out a lady who would otherwise have been stuck indoors alone most of the time.  One member even prepared Christmas lunch for someone, then followed it up by trudging through the snow when it was at its worst to do some essential shopping for her.  The Group helped a dozen people on a regular basis, and a further 36 on an occasional or one-off basis.  We are looking forward to another satisfying year in which to make a difference in the life of people in our community.

If anyone in the Waterlooville or Purbrook area thinks that the Group might be able to help them, or if anyone would like to join the Group, please ring us 9226-6005.  Our volunteers’ time is free but we do ask for donations purely to cover our expenses.

There are also Good Neighbours Groups in Cowplain and Clanfield.

Book of Remembrance

The book of remembrance in our new memorial cabinet is for anyone who would like the name of a loved one recorded – it is not just for those whose funerals have been conducted by St. John’s clergy. We shall remember those whose names are entered in the book at Morning and Evening Prayer on the anniversary of their death.

Please complete a form from the table at the back of church and hand it to one of the Churchwardens. There is no fee, but donations would be gratefully received – at present for the Tower Fund.

We have agreed with Seymour & Bainbridge, our Architects, and representatives from R. J. Winnicott, our builders, it was agreed the start date for repair of tower would be April 18th 2010.

Duration of work would be initially 6 weeks (depending on what, if any, problems are uncovered when the guttering is removed). during this time, the 3 car parking spaces by the West wall will be reserved for the contractors vehicles etc.
