theFURNACE

On Friday 15th July the youth group went to COG’s for theFurnace event, well all except Sheldon  that is !  Churches around the Portsmouth Diocese gather from 7:30-9:30pm to socialise with people from other churches.  There was pop/rock band playing music and some people told some amazing life changing stories explaining how their faith in God had helped them through good and bad times.

To kick it all off we had an activity where we had to link hands and then find a way to make a circle without letting go of each other’s hands.  Let’s just say our group won and we were amazing.  Bethany, Isobelle and Jenny were laughing because I had to climb over people to get in my place and almost fell over.  The music was a full on pop/rock band including a drummer, bass guitarist, six string guitars,  etc.  They were playing Christian music with a twist, it was the type of music that you can jump and well badly dance to if you were Isobelle and I.  After some amazing songs we all sat down and watched a small video followed by a time of quiet pray where we lay down, closed our eyes and relaxed not having to worry about what other people thought about us.

By the end of the evening we were all tired and well I think we all had a bit of a headache but it was worth it.  We had a drink and some pizza and headed home to where our beds were waiting for us.

Isobelle said “it was a great experience and different from normal church, we got to meet new people have a fun but relaxing time and it was brilliant to experience religion in such a youth targeted group.”

We are hoping to do this more often for it is a change from our Sunday service and we all enjoyed it.
