BBC Radio Solent

... by Bethany Moore

Earlier on this year I heard about a project called Community Chest on BBC Radio Solent, from a member of our congregation Jill Pearce. The project was encouraging organisations that did good things for their community. Each week on the radio they would interview three organisations who impressed them by their application email and they have a certain amount of money to spread between them if they think that the money will help them to keep doing good things for the community.

It was decided that I should apply on behalf of the Crazy Christians Puppet Group and so I filled in an application form and emailed it to Radio Solent. We never expected to get anywhere so we were delighted when both my Mum and Eve got a phone call from Chrissie Pollard, the judge of Community Chest. Soon after Eve was invited to be interviewed on the radio by Chrissie and she really did our puppet group proud, impressing Chrissie, and we were awarded £350 to spend on new puppets and material for our songs.

A few months on, Sunday 31st July, Emily Hudson (another lady who works at BBC Radio Solent) came to interview the Crazy Christians and watch us perform. She interviewed Eve and all of the puppeteers performing (Izzy, Jess, Hollie, Abbey and I) and was also very impressed by our performance with the puppets. She was interested to know that we had already bought four new puppets with the money from the Community Chest and planned to buy some new CD’s.

One week later and our interviews combined with some clips of the songs we performed to was played on BBC Radio Solent and many from the congregation listened. If you missed it, don’t worry you can hear a recording of it by clicking here .
